Top hat flesh plugs have on both sides an approximately 0.75 mm wider edge which ensures a very good grip.
The larger edges make them look bigger than they really are.

When used properly the jewelry is harmless but cannot be sterilized.
Wooden pieces which are supposed to be inserted into the body are best treated before first use and regularly later on with Jojoba or Linseed Oil. These oils harden when exposed to oxygen and protect the wood. This can darken the material a bit. We also recommend to additionally seal the wood with bees wax. Depending on how often you wear your jewelry this should be repeated regularly.
