Hand carved ear spiral stretcher from Tamarind wood and Zebra-Tamarind wood

The spirals from the lightly textured zebra tamarind wood were sealed with clear varnish. The dark spirals are made from the untreated and denser heartwood.

The dark Tamarind heartwood is a very heavy, hard and resilient wood and has a higher density than water, which is why it does not float. The bright, beautifully structured zebra tamarind wood is the sapwood of the tamarind tree, which is much lighter and softer. The structures are created by a complex, time-consuming fermentation process.
