Material:

  • Buffalo horn or bone
  • Bones from 10 to 16 millimeters are often not available, which is why those sizes are made of acrylic
  • For closed plugs made of bones larger than 10 mm, lids are made from a separate bone part see pictures)

Handmade plain ear plug from genuine American buffalo bone (white) or horn (black) for stretched ear holes.

 

We recommend to occasionally polish jewelry from horn with vaseline.

"Saddle Plugs" are a bit more narrow in the middle. No rubber rings are necessary for fixation and the Plug or Tunnel has a nice fit in the ear lobe.

Jewelry from organic materials (i.e. wood, horn and bone) offers best wearing comfort due to its light weight and is suitable for people with allergies. As opposed to Piercing-Jewelry made from synthetic materials or stainless steel the formation of odors during wearing is greatly reduced. When used as intended the jewelry is harmless but not sterilizable. It will last a very long time given regular cleaning and correct treatment.

Unfortunately, long bones of the required sizes are rarely available as raw material for plugs and tunnels made of bone in sizes from 10 to 16 mm. Therefore, these are made of acrylic as a substitute. Some vendors claim that these are alternatively made from a mixture of bone and resin. However, this is not the truth. A mixture of both materials would result in a spotty and unclean appearance.
